Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs About Our Recovery Program

Welcome to our FAQ page! We understand that you may have questions about our gambling recovery center and services, and we're here to provide you with the answers you need. Our FAQ section is designed to address some of the most common queries we receive from our customers, providing you with quick and easy access to the information you're looking for. If you can't find the information you're looking for, please feel free to contact us for further assistance. Explore our FAQ page now to learn more.

I’m concerned about my job security, how do I approach my employer?
If your company is of any size, FMLA should be in effect. The Family Medical Leave Act will protect your employment as a result of your going to treatment. However, we will not complete that paper work until you are physically present at our facility in Goodyear, Arizona. Once you have arrived, we will complete and return the FMLA paperwork.

Similarly, short-term disability insurance provides a portion of your salary that is non-taxable. Therefore, it's almost the same as your net salary. If you have short-term disability insurance, we will fill-out that paperwork only after you are physically present with us.
What happens at the conclusion of the treatment plan?
Every client in their last week of treatment negotiates with the clinical team a written, individualized after care plan. It typically consists of a follow-up referral to a gambling-specific therapist in their home environment, a referral back to local Gamblers Anonymous meetings, and some other components that may be relevant to that person's aftercare plan. We also have an Alumni Association that meets frequently that you will be able to attend at the conclusion of the treatment.
Do you treat substance and alcohol abuse as well?
All of our staff have received training in gambling, alcoholism, and chemical dependency. If your family member has a substance and/or alcohol issue, we will treat it simultaneously with his/her gambling problem.
Do you accept Medicare & Medicaid?
We currently don’t accept Medicare or Medicaid but there are a lot of options outside Medicare and Medicaid that many of our clients explore. Feel free to speak with our admissions team about what alternatives are available.
Is smoking permitted?
Smoking or vaping at the Algamus Recovery Center must be outside and only at an appropriate time and never inside our buildings.
Will my employer know that you have processed my insurance information?
The insurance verification process in the United States is HIPAA protected and your employer should not know about it.
How soon can a family member visit?
The client can plan for a weekend visitation after they have been receiving therapy for at least three weeks and are progressing clinically well. He or she will be allowed to spend some time with their family member(s) on Saturday and Sunday but will not be permitted to spend the night with them.
What are our payment plans?

We are a small organization and it is not customary that we will be able to offer payment plans.

Generally, all fees must be paid at admission.

Do you prescribe medications?
We rarely prescribe medications to any client who does not come to us on medications. If we saw the need to do that, the client can always voluntarily refuse medications.
Do I keep my cell phone while in treatment?
Unfortunately, no. We cannot permit you to have your cell phone while you are receiving therapy since it often serves as your gambling device. Therefore, you will relinquish your cell phone at arrival at our facility and it will be returned on the day of your departure.  You will use our phone at our expense to call friends and family on Thursdays and Sundays after a one-week blackout period so that you can fully participate in the program.
Are there Televisions in Algamus?
There are several TVs in the common rooms.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Testimonials

"

I didn't take ownership of having a problem until I went to my first Algamus meeting...When they went around the room and each person described what their game of choice was and how they processed it emotionally and mentally,  it was only at that moment that I said, “wow, they are like me.”

I went to Algamus in August 2021 to stop gambling, but I got so much more. I rediscovered my true self and came to understand the addicted brain and what I need to do to make it well.

Algamus saved my life and my family. It has taken a few years to earn back the trust and respect I had lost, but I am blessed to be healthier and happier than I would have believed possible.

Meet Our Staff

We have a high staff-to-client ratio, ensuring that our clients receive the full attention and support that they need. Our staff are all highly trained in treating gambling disorder and the accompanying underlying issues; some staff members are even recovering from compulsive gambling themselves and fully understand the struggles that our clients are experiencing.

At Algamus, we believe in the importance of not only treating the gambling disorder itself, but also getting to the root of any underlying mental health disorders in order to increase the chances of a successful recovery.
