Our Family Program

TOGETHER YOU'RE STRONGER

Treatment for Your Family

Sending your loved one to treatment is often a difficult decision. We value the trust you’ve placed in our clinical team at Algamus and recognize the difficulties the family system has dealt with and the impact the gambling disorders has had on many relationships.

Family members have a role in recovery, first to themselves and then to the identified client. We recognize much of your attention may have gone to your family member who has been impacted by the gambling, but you have been impacted too. Unlike other addiction disorders, gambling has some distinct characteristics, including financial and legal implications.

Family Therapy

Treating the Family Unit

While addressing your own needs, there are areas your gambler will need your support in, too.

  • Support System: The family serves as a primary support system for individuals struggling with gambling addiction. Their understanding, empathy, and encouragement can significantly contribute to the recovery process.
  • Identifying Triggers: Family members can provide valuable insights into the triggers, patterns, and behaviors associated with the addiction. This information helps therapists develop more effective treatment plans.
  • Addressing Enabling Behaviors: Sometimes, family members unknowingly enable the addictive behavior through their actions or reactions. Involving the family allows therapists to address and change these enabling dynamics.
  • Rebuilding Trust: Gambling addiction often strains relationships and erodes trust. Family involvement can facilitate open communication, healing, and the rebuilding of trust between the individual and their loved ones.
  • Creating a Supportive Environment: Family members can learn about addiction, recovery, and relapse prevention strategies. This knowledge helps them create an environment that supports the individual's efforts to remain abstinent from gambling.
  • Motivation and Accountability: The encouragement, accountability, and positive reinforcement that come from family members can enhance the individual's motivation to stay committed to treatment and recovery.
  • Long-Term Success: Gambling addiction can have a lasting impact on the individual's life. Involving the family increases the chances of sustained recovery by providing ongoing emotional, practical, and social support.

Overall, family involvement fosters a more holistic and comprehensive approach to treatment, addressing not only the individual's addiction but also the wider context in which it operates.

The family program will assist you in navigating the process of addressing your own concerns with your loved one in recovery.

Algamus Client in Recovery

"

Algamus Gambling Recovery Program Saved my Life. From the moment I spoke with Rick Benson I knew I was going to be able to get the help I so desperately needed. The entire staff: the house managers, the councilors, the management team, the owners, were caring and compassionate people.

The treatment program is amazing, the staff is the very best! I learned so much valuable information that I use in my daily life. Words are not enough to express my gratitude for Algamus, I have a future because of their program."

Algamus Client in Recovery

"

I attended the Algamus rehab program. They have professionally trained therapists that each specializes in areas that I needed to work on in my process of fighting my gambling addiction. I tried to overcome my addiction without any success. That included two previous rehabs. One of the things that also makes the Algamus program stand out is that they are exclusively dealing with gamblers. I am very blessed that I now have 2 1/2 years of recovery and I finally have some peace and serenity.  Thank you Algamus."

"

If you are struggling. If you are out of control. If you just want all the craziness of chasing money and falling further and further behind, to stop, let these good people help you! They are so well trained, many former gambling addicts themselves. They know what they're doing. All of my fellows in recovery had different patterns, styles and games and yet the staff worked wonders with them all. They knew the different types we were and how to maximize treatment effectiveness. Last I heard, we were all doing great post-rehab. I know I have placed my last bet in this lifetime."

"

I didn't take ownership of having a problem until I went to my first Algamus meeting. When they went around the room and each person described what their game of choice was and how they processed it emotionally and mentally,  it was only at that moment that I said, 'wow, they are like me.'"
